Orange isn’t the new black; or at least it wasn’t at at the California College of the Arts’ annual gala, Black is the New Black, a memorable evening of fashion and fun. The CCA Gala, a fundraising event to support scholarships at CCA, was held March 25 on the CCA’s San Francisco campus in the spectacular architecture award-winning Nave — transformed by Stanlee Gatti for this occasion.

The evening began with a cocktail hour, dinner (catered by Taste Catering), followed by an exciting runway show featuring emerging CCA alumni leaders, a silent auction as well as a festive after-party. Six CCA Fashion Design Program alumni (Amber Clisura, Erick Lopez, Paloma Von Broadley, Pin Yun (Sindia) Lin, Hannah Gallagher, and Les Schweikert) showcased a variety of work from bridal couture to men’s wear to children’s wear. Since graduating, several of these talented designers have started their own labels, and others work for major fashion houses such as Bibhu Mohapatra, who attended the gala, and Badgley Mischka.

The 2015 CCA Gala was co-chaired by CCA trustee Kay Kimpton Walker, Leigh Sherwood Matthes and Cathy Podell. Also among the notables on hand: Douglas Durkin, OJ Shansby, Norah Stone, Norman Stone and Gatti.
