On Wednesday, South Miami boutique Capretto played host to an intimate brunch alongside fashion muse and international “it girl,” Erica Pelosini, inviting guests to preview Jimmy Choo’s Pre-Fall 2015 collection. The event was hosted at Matador Room’s outdoor terrace at the much-lauded Miami Beach Edition. Local tastemakers like Jenine Howard, Maria Tettamanti, Alina De la Vega MacLean, Erin Newberg, Ashley Turchin and Elaine Spotswood stepped out well-heeled to meet Pelosini and talk all things Choo. Capretto buyers Jason Salstein and Lidia Pefaur were also on-hand to lend expert advice on this season’s must-haves. After brunch, the day continued during an in-store event where buyers rushed to be the first to shop the new collection.
Erica Pelosini is best known for her unique rock and roll-meets-couture aesthetic, with trademark bed head hair. But the stylish globetrotter has also worked alongside fashion greats like Anna Dello Russo, Roberto Cavalli, Patrick Demarchelier and Tim Walker. Pelosini has also contributed to magazines including Harper’s Bazaar UK and US, Spanish and Japanese Vogue and Italy’s Flair magazine. Erica is currently a Style Reporter for L’Officiel Paris, Vogue and Style.com.
It’s safe to say that the Balmain-clad Pelosini knows a thing or two about styling, and here, she’s sharing her thoughts on the kind of footwear every woman should have in her closet, dishes intimate details about her now famous wedding, and announces the debut of her newly formed company, The Curator LA.
RAC: You’re a bit of an expert on all things shoes since becoming a designer yourself. Describe your affinity for footwear and the assortment that every woman should have in their closet.
EP: It is actually kind of funny, because so many shoe designers are friends of mine. I was working for Vogue and my husband and I decided to put our knowledge together and create something classic but zesty. My best friend, Aquazzura started the same year doing women’s shoes. When my wedding happened, I had no idea what shoes I was going to wear. In the end I went with Aquazzura because they custom made a pair for me. I collect shoes, I have more than 1500, but I’m a heel girl, I don’t like flats. If I’m going to Coachella, I’ll wear an Isabel Marant motorcycle boot but I personally love stilettos. I think every woman should have a pair, and I love Gianvito Rossi for a stiletto. I think the shape is just perfect.
RAC: What styles are you investing in this season?
EP: Aquazzura just created the ‘Erica’ boot, named after me. So that’s my shoe for the season!
RAC: Your wedding was well documented on nearly every style site. How did your bridal look come together?
EP: This was my look, my style. I like to keep tradition, and I like to mix pieces. I love the boho look, but I like to mix it with something more classic. I wanted to keep the tradition of a wedding, but I also wanted to do it my way. I like things a bit unexpected. Peter Dundas custom-made my dress.
RAC: This is now your third time in Miami. What do you think of the city so far?
EP: I have only been to Miami for Art Basel, I came the last two years. I never had an occasion to come here before. I’m enjoying this trip more because Art Basel is so crazy, that you can’t really enjoy or explore Miami. There are so many places that I still want to go to like C. Madeleine’s and Joe’s Stone Crab. I went to Casa Tua last night and I loved it, and I always stay at the Soho House and I love it there too.
RAC: Your personal style is hailed and is a source of inspiration for others, but to whom do you look for inspiration?
EP: From the very beginning I was very inspired by Anna Dello Russo, and I ended up working with her, and it was an amazing experience. Right now, my inspiration is not one person. It’s a combination of multiple people together. I love the boho and rock star vibe, but I’m also very intrigued by couture. I love a mix! They quoted me once saying that ‘I like a girl in couture with messy hair.’ It’s so true!
RAC: What are some of your career highlights?
EP: An unforgettable moment was when I did a shoot with Anna Dello Russo, Patrick Demarchelier and Anja Rubik for Dior Couture. It was an experience. And also when I worked with Tim Walker. Tim Walker is like my god. I think he’s so cool.
RAC: Any future projects in the pipeline?
EP: I moved to LA, and I am building this company called The Curator LA, which will create content for brands curated by me and my partner. We also will have a store and create pop-ups from boutiques all of the world, hopefully with Capretto too.
