Victoria’s Secret: The Angels Conquer London
It’s been months in the making and last night London’s Earls Court finally got to host the glamorous and glitzy lingerie event of the year for the first time—namely the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. And as ever, all the stops were pulled out to make for a night of heady entertainment, celebrities, beautiful angels and, of course, gorgeous underwear.
The theme of the evening definitely levitated between classic, goddess-like beauty looks and more eclectic sportier styles. Behati Prinsloo effortlessly opened the show in a gold metallic number, conquering her nerves and divulging that being part of the show was her “dream come true.” Others, such as Karlie Kloss and Lindsay Ellingson, also showed strong, shimmering looks complete with banging boots to suit. The other end of the spectrum saw those such as Jourdan Dunn and Shanina Shalik sporting an array of colours in vibrant get-ups that certainly put the miserable British weather to shame. With increased emphasis on their Pink label, the show also included a variety of looks taken from this edgier version of the classic lingerie line, with graffiti-inspired designs and crop tops on some of the younger girls. But all eyes were firmly on Victoria’s Secret’s strongest brand ambassadors, Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima, who once again sasheyed down the runway in the ultimate must-have item: the brand’s jewel-encrusted fantasy bras, worth $2m.
A Victoria’s Secret show wouldn’t be complete without an all-star celebrity backing track, and last night certainly didn’t disappoint. Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Hozier and Taylor Swift all belted their hits out to the rhythm of the angel’s wings, with Grande demonstrating the occupational hazards that go along with the job as she managed to get hit on the head by one herself. Swift, on the other hand, embraced her inner angel and looked every bit the part in risqué lingerie and a dressing gown, later even taking a moment to share the catwalk with best friend Karlie Kloss.
With a total of 39 models strutting their stuff down the famous runway, including eight angels complete with their wings, the enchanted looks more than enhanced the fantasy and fun of the evening. And as another year of the show wraps up, the angels looked ready to enjoy a well-deserved night of dancing and mingling at the after-party.
