La-Perla-

LA PERLA
3333 Bristol Street, Costa Mesa, CA  92626
(714) 754-7500
Luxurious lingerie company La Perla brought its first American concept store to South Coast Plaza on August 16th, one month before the brand celebrated its 60th anniversary. The boutique’s interiors, courtesy of architect Roberto Baciocchi, are inspired by great Italian architecture: references to the work of Carlo Scarpa from the Castelvecchio Museum in Verona can be found in the dusty colored walls dressed in painted fabric and in the display cases within the store. Here you’ll find the dichotomy of severity in the store’s Portuguese marble slabs and paved floors, and softness in its silk tub armchairs, pastel walls, and window arches lined in pink onyx. Delicate underpinnings are presented on gilded hangers or on velvet-lined trays. In order to maintain your modesty (in the store, at least), ring a “service” bell, and a La Perla employee will be at your beck and call.

Italian designer Giuseppe Zanotti brought his luxe line of high-end shoes, clothing, bags, and ready-to-wear to the Beverly Center in early September. The new, 1,300-square-foot space features clean lines, off-white walls, and wood paneling, all the better to showcase his distinctive wares. Expect to find coolly elegant details such as grey and brass hardware, a black and white marble floor offset by a lush slate-colored carpet, and a sheet metal wall separator that provides a “blinking” effect when you enter the new space.

Valentino-2-

VALENTINO
3333 Bristol St, Costa Mesa, CA 92626
(714) 751-3300
The revamped Valentino boutique at South Coast Plaza is more than just a store—it’s an experience. As conceptualized by creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli in collaboration with architect David Chipperfield, the 2,300-square-foot boutique combines old and new to create the intimate atmosphere of a palazzo. An enfilade of rooms separates the different types of merchandise; distinct atmospheres are created by a custom palette of colors, textures, surfaces and light. The architecture is designed to complement the pieces on display, making use of a range of discreetly opulent materials; grey Venetian terrazzo with Carrara chippings, American walnut, marble, glass, thick leather, and soft carpets. The design unifies these individual rooms into a consistent experience by surrounding an inset floor panel made of timber parquet, marble in black and white chessboard patterns, or wool and silk carpet, with a continuous Venetian terrazzo frame. Wall finishes vary from room to room, including mirrors that have been sandblasted alternately on both sides. At each threshold, the terrazzo rises from the floor to line the doorway, emphasizing the thickness of the walls. The chandeliers are assembled from optical lenses set in brass bezels into a range of shapes. The boutique, which reopened with its new design concept in April, carries women’s ready-to-wear, handbags and shoe collections.
