Driving up the coast along the PCH, you already know a few things about the Malibu Beach Inn. It’s in close proximity to Nikita, Nobu and the Malibu pier, is located on “Billionaire’s Beach” and is owned by mega-mogul David Geffen. Though all these facts might foreshadow how awesome your stay will be, you have no way of knowing just how much you’ll absolutely fall in love with this boutique, 47-room property—we didn’t, at least.

When you arrive, you might be confused: hotel check-in also happens to be in the same place as the check-in for the property’s delectable eatery, the Carbon Beach Club. Ignore your confusion, soak in the view and make sure to grab some fresh fruit, water spiked with strawberry and lemon, and homemade chocolate chip cookies (they’re to die for) before being whisked away to your room.

For such a boutique property, Geffen and his team have worked magic with these rooms. Our king bedroom on the Malibu Beach Inn’s third floor (the top floor, as it were) was far more spacious than we suspected with its high wooden beams, gleaming cream walls and beach-centric photos courtesy of California-based artists Glenn Ness.

Though we couldn’t help but marvel at how gorgeous the room was, there’s no way we could stay in the room for more than 10 seconds without checking out the epic view. Without the aid of the provided binoculars, we were able to see schools of dolphins and several yachts on the glittering Pacific. Make sure you sit for a moment on the provided patio chairs and fully soak in the stunning surroundings.

Now let’s chat about the room. The bed, with its custom-made Ortho pillow-top mattress and Frette linens, is bliss: you’ll feel like you’re sleeping on air. With the ocean waves crashing below you, this might be one of the best sleeps you’ll ever have.

The interior is also inviting thanks to a cozy gas fireplace, a well-stocked 11-bottle in-room wine selection with hand-picked California varietals, custom mood lighting, a mounted LED TV and a free-of-use iPad to play on.

What also sets this boutique hotel apart is that its staff do their best to cater to your ever need. Whether it’s providing you with complimentary in-room coffee service, extra Molton Brown bath products or a daily newsletter that contains suggested daily activities, your horoscope and fun things to do in the ‘Bu, the Malibu Beach Inn team really goes the extra mile.

So sit back, relax and enjoy your stay. Truly, there’s no better way to play billionaire for the day.
