With a distinct conceptual shift, photographs from the eccentric Austrian Halsman, dating back to 1950s, have served as motivation for the latest A/W13 campaign visuals, where models are shown jumping in shots to showcase both men’s and womenswear.

Halsman developed the art of capturing people jumping, which he coined Jumpology, following his time working alongside Salvator Dali.”When you ask a person to jump, his attention is mostly directed toward the act of jumping and the mask falls so that the real person appears,” he says.

In 1959, Halsman released the book Philippe Halsman’s Jump Book showing more than 170 images of celebrities caught in mid-air including the Duke and Duchess, as well Marilyn Monroe, former US President Richard Nixon and Liberace.  Halsman also famously photographed the black and white portrait shot of his close friend Albert Einstein and worked again with Dali to produce images of his 1951 portrait In Voluptas Mors, which saw Dali pose against a skull made from real-life naked models. He also worked for some time for Life magazine, shooting countless covers for them.

Thomas Pink is located at The Dubai Mall. Tel. +971 43398598.
