Mercadito‘s (108 W. Kinzie St) July “Taco for Strength” brings diners into award-winning Chef Rick Tramonto’s (Restaurant R’evolution; Tramonto Steak and Seafood) family kitchen as he shares a taste of his favorite Sunday breakfast in a specialty taco created to benefit Share Our Strength. Each month, Mercadito’s Chef Patricio Sandoval invites a distinguished chef to cook up a featured taco to help end childhood hunger. Guests can enjoy Chef Tramonto’s taco take on breakfast with his Chorizo and Egg Taco with Spicy Sriracha Mayo, available at all Mercadito locations Monday, July 1 through Wednesday, July 31, 2013.

Chef Tramonto’s breakfast-inspired taco features flavors reminiscent of a relaxing weekend morning: spicy Spanish chorizo and fluffy scrambled eggs cooked with paprika, garlic, jalapeno, onion, and tomato. Sriracha mayo adds an unexpected kick, juxtaposing the popular chile-laced Vietnamese hot sauce with chorizo’s smokier, paprika-induced heat.

“Sunday morning breakfast is a Tramonto family tradition—it’s a time we can spend together and relax. And of course, enjoy delicious food,” says Chef Tramonto. “My wife inspired this ‘breakfast’ taco recipe one such Sunday while I was cooking for her, and I’m excited to introduce this different twist on a taco to the Tacos for Strength program, while raising money for children in need.”

Tramonto is the second Chicago chef to contribute to the 2013 Tacos for Strength. Mercadito Chicago now has raised more than $7,000 for the campaign, now in its third year, including a record-setting $3,147 in 2012 alone.

Five percent of the sales from Tramonto’s taco will be donated to Share Our Strength. The tacos will be available for dinner for (four per order) for $16.50 or for lunch (three per order) for $12.50. Reservations for Mercadito are recommended and can be made by calling 312.329.9555.
