This year’s Hollywood Bowl summer season is gearing up to be a line-up of firsts, with actressBrooke Shields taking the directing reigns for the festival’s production of ‘Chicago’.

According to The Los Angeles Times, Shields will partner with conductor Rob Fisher for the summer production of ‘Chicago’ at the Hollywood Bowl in July. Fisher has previously worked numerous times as the supervising music director for worldwide productions of ‘Chicago,’ and, as an actress, Shields has played Roxie Hart in the 2005 Broadway production, at London’s West End, and Bob Fosse’s musical production of the show.

In a statement, Shields said, “My passion for ‘Chicago’ began decades ago, purely as a fan. I am honored to have [been] asked to make my directional debut on such an important musical, and one that is so dear to my heart.”

The Hollywood Bowl is the largest natural outdoor amphitheater in the country. Southern Californians often gather there to picnic and enjoy music, which includes occasional summer performances by the LA Philharmonic and much more, including shows by Tony Bennett, Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Fireworks and Blue Man Group, among others.

The presentation of ‘Chicago’ this summer will take place on July 26 and 27 at 8 p.m. and July 28 at 7:30 p.m.

‘Chicago’ is expected to be a one-of-a-kind Bowl production. Described by the Hollywood Bowl website as, “the brilliantly sexy tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz. Set amid the razzle-dazzle of the 1920s, this winner of six Tony Awards will come to decadent life with a sensational-star cast.”

Single tickets for ‘Chicago’ will go on sale May 4, but subscriptions and packages for the Hollywood Bowl’s summer season are already available for purchase online.
