On December 14, the piano used for the classic song “As Time Goes By” in the 1942 movie Casablanca will be going up for sale at Sotheby’s in New York, and is expected to fetch up to $1.2 million.

According to MSN news, on Casablanca’s 70th anniversary, the piano will be offered by a Japanese collector, who purchased the prop at a 1988 Sotheby’s auction for $154,000.

This time around when the piano hits the auction block, Sotheby’s estimates that it will fetch between $800,000 and $1.2 million.

In the film, Rick Blaine, who was played by Humphrey Bogart, leans on the piano and utters a now famous line, “Here’s looking at you, kid”.

According to Sotheby’s, the upright piano has 58 keys and is inscribed with maker’s mark: Richardson’s Inc., Los Angeles. It is finished in viridian green with ivory trompe l’oeil craquelure interior panels. It is described as “one of the most important props from the most romantic movie ever made and one of the most famous musical instrument in movie history.”

Casablanca premiered on Thanksgiving Day in 1942.
