Southern California’s Presidential Buildings

Despite the political battle for the White House coming to and end on Election Day, the country’s interest in all things presidential is still quite high, so it may be a good time to check out some recently reported notable buildings in Southern California that have strong ties to U.S. presidents.

On Election Day, LA Curbed reported about twelve southern California buildings with presidential ties, including Richard Nixon’s first law office in the old National Bank of Whittier Building, Roland Regan and Jane Wyman’s home in the Doheny Estates that recently sold for $8.5 million, the Century Plaza Hotel/St. Regis where Ronald Regan frequented regularly and has a penthouse dedicated to Reagan and his wife Nancy, Gerald Ford’s post-White House home on the Rancho Mirage golf course and Nancy Reagan’s current home in Los Angeles.

Other Presidential spots in California include the Fairmont in San Francisco, which, according to Oyster.com, is known by the hotel’s PR team as the “White House of the West” because it has hosted nearly every U.S. president since William Taft, and the Westin St. Francis, where nearly every president has visited since its opening a century ago.

Over on the East Coast, Washington, DC’s Hay-Adams hotel has been a long-standing host to some of DC’s power players, including President Obama who stayed for two weeks with his family prior to his first inauguration.
