Renowned for being one of the most exclusive ski resorts, Aspen, Colorado has also been ranked the most expensive place to build a ski home due to the fact that the area can demand extremely high prices for construction and project costs.

Business Insider cites a recent study by luxury home design company Pollack + Partners, which found that Aspen is the “most expensive place in North America to build a ski home”, followed by Big Sky, MT; Telluride, CO; Jackson Hole, WY; Vail, CO; Park City, UT; and Whistler, BC.

Chris Pollack, president of Pollack + Partners, recently told Business Insider, “Aspen is at the top of the list perennially because it is the most exclusive ski resort out west. And that factor lets it demand the high prices for construction costs. Everyone wants to be there.”

According to the study, construction costs average $950 per square foot and project costs average $1,235 per square foot.

There are a number of ski resorts including four main mountains, which draw a mixture of serious skiers, Hollywood celebrities and tourists. Aspen is considered a major tourism destination year-round. It is also the center for numerous cultural events and festivals, such as the Aspen Music Festival and the ESPN Winter X Games.
