Haute Interview: Jonathan Cheban, on Filming with Kim and Kourtney Kardashian in Miami

News | October 15, 2012

Jonathan Cheban is a recognizable face in pop culture, mainly from his appearance on the ever-so-popular show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians that closely watches over his friendship with Kim Kardashian. Jonathan founded his company Command PR in 2009 planning events and spear heading campaigns for some of the nations biggest brands. I caught up with him on the red carpet at the Tracy Anderson and Gwyneth Paltrow Pregnancy Project launch party to talk about his upcoming projects, living in Miami, and social media haters.

Good to see you Jonathan. What’s new with you these days?

I’m filming in Miami for three months shooting Kim and Kourtney Take Miami. I’ve got a lot of projects going on. I’m moving into restaurants, doing sushi restaurants first, then burger franchises. I’m bringing a new sushi concept to Miami it’s going to be pretty cool. So I’ve been in Miami working on both the restaurant and the show. I’ve also got my website Elite Daily which had over six million unique hits last month.

That’s impressive. Congrats!

Thank you, thank you.

What surprises do you, Kim and Kourtney have in store for the new show? You guys are always up to something.

We’ve been filming a lot and there’s some really funny stuff now that there is a new baby involved. Whenever the show shoots in Miami its always a different type of season. It’s a lot less intense than Kim and Kourtney Take New York.

Miami has a more fun vibe.

It does, It’s a lot more laid back.

How do you feel about how far Kim has come in the last year with everything she has gone through?

Kim and I have been friends for a long time. I’ve seen how things have played out behind the scenes. She’s come a long way and she’s a strong woman. The fact that she goes to Australia and twenty thousand people show up to a mall to see her is incredible. She’s become an around the world phenomenon.

A lot of people might not know this but you have been on television for years. You have made a lot of appearances on different shows in the past, including a regular spot VH1’s The Fabulous Life.

Yes, that’s right. I’ve been in TV for years and years. With them (the Kardashians) and my own show it’s been about four years now. Both shows air in over 120 countries, so it’s pretty crazy.

Do you think the Kardashian sisters get a lot more scrutiny and criticism than other reality stars and celebrities? Some would say a lot of people envy their success in entertainment and as businesswomen.

There’s a lot of hate, it’s terrible. I get it on my Twitter and Instagram all the time; I see it on Kim’s as well. It’s just miserable people, who are sitting in their basements, I feel bad for them, it’s sad. Some people spend their whole day just commenting, it’s really a sick situation.

What is your favorite must have piece for the fall/winter season?

Hmmmm It’s weird, it’s changed now cause I’m not in New York.

Well now you’re in hot weather being in Miami.

If I were in NYC, I’d be on point. There are no must haves in Miami; it’s not that kind of city, just a lot of shorts (laughs). Even to put this on today I had to look through my closet and think about it, because we shipped a lot of our clothes to Miami.
