San Francisco Haute 100

Our annual Haute 100 list is a compilation of the most influential individuals in business, technology, fashion and other top industries. We don’t have to search far to find the 100 most intriguing and successful people in San Francisco, home of the esteemed Silicon Valley, but it can be quite a task to keep up with them, as these power players are doing big things: raising funds for organizations, speaking at national conferences, even expanding into New Zealand. As such, a yearly update simply isn’t enough.

A. JENNIFER SIEBEL NEWSOM WAS KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT ANNUAL JUNIOR LEAGUES CONFERENCE

Haute Living San Francisco cover star Jennifer Siebel Newsom has been quite busy lately, having worked behind the scenes of a film as director of Miss Representation and then starred on camera with a leading role in Till You Get to Baraboo. Most recently, the wife of Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom took the spotlight on another stage.

Newsom was the keynote speaker at the 111th annual conference of The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. A well-attended event, the conference saw Junior League members from different ends of the map, including the U.S., Mexico, the U.K. and Canada.

B. GEORGE LUCAS CHANGES STUDIO LOCATION

The man behind the Star Wars empire has finally given up on his Grady Ranch project in Marin County. After 25 years of pushing for the construction of a Lucasfilm Ltd. production studio, George Lucas announced that he hopes to break ground on a studio about 15 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge early next year.

 

C. CHEF CHARLES PHAN TO SERVE AS FIRST VEGAS NIGHT MARKET

Lucky Rice recently announced that Haute 100 chef Charles Phan will be one of the esteemed chefs participating in Vegas Night Market.

Lucky Rice, the annual New York culinary festival, is bringing its Vegas Night Market to the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas for the first time on June 23 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Boulevard Pool. The event will also feature celebrated local chefs from Las Vegas, and the Cosmopolitan’s resident mixologists will be on hand providing drinks for guests. Phan is best known for his famed San Francisco eatery The Slanted Door. His cuisine is a modern take on Vietnamese fare.

D. VINOD KHOSLA GUIDES ONEID IN RAISING $7 MILLION

It was recently announced that Vinod Khosla helped OneID raise a grand total of $7 million. Founded by Steve Kirsch, a well-known technology entrepreneur, OneID was created to give people a platform from which they can control all their different usernames and passwords and ultimately help reduce online fraud and the costs of developing complicated authentication procedures. Khosla Ventures is receiving well-deserved credit for helping raise the much-needed funds.

E. CO-FOUNDER DANIEL EK’S SPOTIFY TO HIT NEW ZEALAND SOON

Spotify, an online music streaming service founded by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon, is about to take New Zealand by storm. Spotify allows users to listen to their favorite artists and albums, even on their smartphones, in exchange for a monthly fee. The launch is expected soon, and there’s already talk that the innovative site will change the way New Zealand’s music lovers consume tunes.
