Four Seasons Hualalai Going Green for Guests

Hawaii Island’s one and only Forbes’s Five-Star resort is going green.

The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Kaupulehu has announced new initiatives for environmentally conscious guests interested in diminishing their carbon footprint during their stay.

The 65-room King’s Pond Eco-Crescent located around the King’s Pond pool has been updated with more eco-friendly amenities to protect the island’s majestic ecosystem.

Plastic water bottles have been replaced by ceramic carafes and filling stations, disposable bath product bottles have been replaced by reusable pumps, and terrycloth bathing slippers have been replaced by rubber sandals.

In-room paper products have been reduced and the necessary paper now comes from recycled materials, and incandescent light bulbs have been replaced by more energy efficient fluorescent bulbs.

Guests in the King’s Pond Eco-Crescent are also automatically enrolled in the Green Linen program, which cuts energy usage by limiting linen changes to every third day.

The hotel has already made strides to make the environment better. The Resort has partnered with Hawaii Legacy Hardwoods to plant 500,000 never-to-be-harvested koa trees on the island.

In addition, water used to irrigate the grounds is fertilized through compost tea and the drinking water comes from private wells and is purified through reverse osmosis.

“The Eco-Crescent at King’s Pond is the latest enhancement in our continued commitment to bettering our environment and being a leader in doing so,” says Robert Whitfield, general manager of the Four Seasons Resort at Hualalai.
