Vincent van Gogh’s London House heads to Auction

The south London house where Vincent van Gogh lived as a young man in 1873 will head to auction after being put on the market for the first time 65 years.
Vincent van Gogh lived in the house located on Hackford Road in a part of south London called Brixton from 1873 to 1874. A letter that Vincent wrote to his brother, Theo in 1874 mentioned the home saying, “I’m getting on well here. I’ve got a lovely home.”
The white home features a blue plaque that declares Vincent van Gogh lives in the house, which features battered floorboards and slipping roof timbers, but the Savills auctioneers aren’t denying the place needs some renovation. However, each bedroom does still have its own cast-iron fireplace in tact.
Van Gogh resided in the home when he was 20 years old and reportedly walked to Covent Garden every day where the art dealers were.
The home is expected to go for more than £400,000 when it hits the auction block on Tuesday evening.
