The prestigious James Beard Awards are fast approaching and with the announcement of the award’s semi-finalist, Palm Beach County certainly has something to smile about. Three local food and wine figures made the list of semi-finalists.

Semi-finalists for the James Beard Award were chosen from 57,000 online entries, which set a record for the coveted honor. Among the nominees were Palm Beach’s Clay Conley, who is the chef and co-owner of Buccan bistro. He was nominated for Best Chef South (along with Miami Beach chefs Jeff McInnis of Yardbird Southern table & Bar, Paula DaSilva of 1500º and Sergio Navarro of Pubbelly and more).

The Virginia Philip Wine Shop & Academy in West Palm Beach received a nod for master sommelier Virginia Philip and Palm Beach’s Café Boulud was nominated for Outstanding Service.

Five finalists in each category will be announced on March 19 and the winners will be announced in New York City on May 7.
