Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) will be partnering with CITIC East China Group to build a new vineyard in China’s Shandong province. The new winery will be located in Pengali and is expected to produce around 120,000 bottles of wine per year.

According to a Lafite spokesperson, varying grapes will be planted in accordance with soil constituents and chemical fertilizers will be avoided. Pengali, a port town, is known for its quality grape growing area and wine production within the region has grown significantly in the past few years with the number of wine makers increased from 39 to 70 between 2005 and 2011.

This new vineyard will be Lafite’s third venture outside of France.
