Americans Projected to Spend a Total of $7.1 Billion on Valentine’s Day

This Valentine’s Day, it seems as though couples are going bigger and better for their special someones.

According to a survey by the National Retail Federation, the average person is planning to spend about $126 for the romantic day, up almost nine percent from last year’s average. This adds up to a projected total of $17.1 billion spending spree amongst Americans on Valentine’s Day. According to this survey, men will be spending about $83 more than women

Of the many Valentine’s Day gifts, the most popular purchase will be on jewelry. It is predicted that purchases will reach about $4 billion dollars. Right below jewelry, the second most common spending for Valentine’s Day will go to a special evening out. Billions of dollars more will go to flowers, candy, clothing and gift cards.
