On Sunday, a publicist announced that $5 million has been raised for actor Sean Penn’s J/P Haitian Relief Organization.

The money was reportedly raised in Los Angeles and will go toward the actor’s humanitarian group, which is based in Haiti. Penn set up the organization just months after a devastating earthquake shook Haiti in 2010 and thousands of people lost their homes and livelihoods. The organization oversees a settlement camp that some of the displaced individuals now live in.

Haiti’s foreign affairs minister, Laurent Lamothe, honored Penn with the title of “ambassador at large to Haiti” during an event that took place in Beverly Hills. Hillary Clinton’s chief-of-staff Cheryl Mills was on at the event along with a slew of celebrities.

Last week marked the two-year anniversary since the earthquake hit Haiti and some services and new conferences were held to commemorate those that suffered, and are still suffering, from the natural disaster.
