President Obama Sings to Audience at Apollo Theater

News | January 20, 2012

Last night President Obama spoke to an excited crowd at a fundraising event at New York’s famed Apollo Theater. Guests were enthralled by a little surprise from the commander in chief; a brief rendition of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together”.

Green, the legendary soul singer, was one of the two warm-up acts before the president addressed an audience of 1,400 at the landmark theater. “Don’t worry, Rev. I cannot sing like you,” Obama said. “I just wanted to show my appreciation”. The Apollo theater was one of several events that the president attended yesterday, but the only one in which he serenaded the audience. That’s haute.
