Great Places for New Year’s Eve Festivities in the United Kingdom

If you still haven’t finalized your New Year’s Eve plans and you’re looking for some options in the UK, take a moment to consider these great options.

Red Hot Highland Fling – Inverness: The party starts at 8 p.m. in the Northern Meeting Prak Arena in Iverness, Scotland. It’s a family-friendly affair hosted by comedian Craig Hill and four feature bands. At midnight there will be the traditional firework display to ring in the New Year. Best of all? No tickets necessary!

Hogmanay Street Party – Dornoch, Sutherland: This festive street party starts at 10:30pm and is also kids-friendly. Taking place in the town square, there will be a ceildh band, bagpipes and of course food and drink. Fireworks will go off at midnight and the nearby sites such as the castle, courthouse and cathedral will all be lit up.

Tudor Square Party – Tenby, Pembrokeshire: Tudor Square will be bustling on New Year’s Eve with thousands of party-goers ready for the clock to strike midnight. The festivities start at 11:30 p.m. and at 12 a.m. the fireworks will begin followed by more partying to ring in the New Year. For a quieter viewing of the fireworks, you can also go to the beach just three miles from the square in Saundersfoot where you can enjoy a picnic under the stars.

Fireballs Festival – Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire: Street entertainers will kick things off here at 11 p.m. before 50 participants head to High Street for a flaming fireball show. They will be wearing homemade contraptions of “solid fuel” around their neck for onlookers delight. Of course, fireworks will take place here as well at midnight too.

Calenning Celebrations – Cardiff: If you’re in Wales for the holiday, there will be free live music at the Civic Center starting at 9 p.m. followed by a firework show. If you’re bringing kids, you can also head to a family funfair that is open from noon until 1 a.m. There will be free buses that run selected routes around the city until 2:30 a.m. and even an open-air ice rink to skate into the New Year.

Fancy Dress – Bideford, Devon: Here you can enjoy an outdoor road show from 6 p.m. onwards before the bells of St. Mary’s church ring in the new year and set off the firework display.

Nos Galan Races – Mountain Ash, Rhondda: Every year the people of Mountain Ash in the Cynon Valley organize 5km races around the town. Everyone gets involved – including a famous sportsperson, who is only revealed on the day. Street entertainers start at 4:30 p.m. and children’s races follow shortly after. The surprise guest then lights a beacon, fireworks go off and the other races begin. Everything is typically finished by 8:30 p.m.
