Daimler to Shut Down Maybach

Haute Auto, News | December 1, 2011

Daimler will be shutting down its ultra-luxury Maybrach brand.  The brand has been a consistent thorn in Daimler’s side; with almost a decade of losses from the auto that retails for more than $350,000.

Production will shut down when a redesigned version of the flagship Mercedes-Benz S-Class hits the market in 2013.  “It would not make sense to develop a successor model,” Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche said.  He also said they will double variations of the $95,000 S-Class so “it can replace the Maybach” and rise up to challenge BMW as the world’s top luxury maker.
