Ritz-Carlton to Build Third Japanese Property in Kyoto

News | November 21, 2011

Ritz-Carlton will open its third hotel in Japan, in the ancient capital city of Kyoto.  The hotel will be completed and ready to open in spring 2014 on the demolished site of Hotel Fujita Kyoto, which closed earlier this year.

Kyoto has longsince been a top destination for domestic and international travelers, but is traditionally underocccupied by luxury hotel names; the Ritz might be a game changer for the city.  The hotel, which will have 140 guest rooms, will be built along the Kamogawa river; one of the most popular walking spots—especially during cherry blossom season in spring.  Kyoto is strictly regulated as a low-rise city, so the upcoming Ritz-Carlton will feature no more than four floors above ground, but an additional three floors underground.
