Ian Schrager to Bring Public Hotels Brand to New York City

News | November 15, 2011

Studio 54 co-founder and legendary hotelier Ian Schrager says he will be brining his new Public Hotels brand to New York City in the next few years.

If you enjoy the Public Chicago hotel, known for its simple yet stylish rooms, Public Express room service and a happening restaurant and bar scene, you’ll be very happy to hear that Schrager has teamed up with developer Douglas Durst to open a 250-room Public Hotel in Manhattan’s Herald Square.

The New York hotel will be located in the lower 16 floors of a 56-story residential building in Herald Square. In addition to all the regular Public hotel amenities seen in Chicago, the Public New York will also have a nightclub, a health club, a pool and an outdoor garden. Residential tenants in the building will also be privy to the hotel amenities including room service.

Although the Public New York won’t be accepting any guests for another three years, construction is set to start this spring. Once opened, rates are expected to be around $300 per night.

Schrager is also working on plans for the Edition New York hotel that will open in the Clock Tower building near Madison Square Park.
