Haute 100 Update: Katie Holmes Accepts Role on CBS’s ‘How I Met Your Mother’

Katie Holmes, whose new thriller Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark came out last month, has accepted a TV role on the hit CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. The show premiered in 2005 and has gained an incredible fan base through its unique premise and stars Jason Segel, Josh Radnor, Alyson Hannigan, and Neil Patrick Harris.

The premise of the show is that it takes place in the year 2030 with the main character, Ted Mosby (played by Josh Radnor) recounting to his son and daughter the events that led to his meeting their mother. The identity of the mother has not yet been revealed – and it is unlikely Katie Holmes’ character, but not impossible.

Holmes is set to play a character called the “Slutty Pumpkin” for the show’s Halloween episode. Fans of the show will recall from the first season Ted’s search for the elusive character throughout the sitcom’s first Halloween episode. Holmes will return as that character, who Ted never actually got to meet that night.

The show’s co-creator, Craig Thomas, is excited to cast Holmes as one of the show’s most legendary off-screen characters. He commented, “Katie is a lovely and talented actress, which is why we’ve saved for her perhaps the most classily named character in our show’s history,” adding that Holmes’ role was “literally six seasons in the making.”

As of now, it is still unclear as to whether Homes’ role on the show will be a one-episode stint or something that will span a multiple episode story arc in which she may be used as a tease for audiences regarding the identity of the ever-secretive mother.

How I Met Your Mother airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
