Andrew Carmellini to Open The Dutch Branch on Miami Beach

News | September 7, 2011

South Beach will soon be getting a taste of The Dutch as Andrew Carmellini brings a branch of the SoHo restaurant down south.

Carmellini says that bringing a branch of The Dutch down to South Beach is “kind of a homecoming. My dad is from Miami and it’s always been my second home. My grandfather ran clubs and hotels and my grandmother still lives there.”

The Miami Beach branch of The Dutch will be located in the W Hotel on Collins Avenue, replacing Solea, the hotel’s original restaurant. Carmellini and his partners, Josh Pickard and Luke Ostrom, will run the restaurant, which is set to open in mid-November, just in time for Art Basel.

Carmellini said the menu will include iconic dishes that he associates with Miami, like sour orange pie, grouper sandwiches at lunch and local shrimp. While the New York restaurant has more of an urban feel, Carmellini said the Miami branch will have more an airy, indoor-outdoor feel.
