The UK’s Most Expensive House On Sale for $123 Million

News | June 8, 2011

The most expensive country house in the UK has gone up for sale for $123 Million (£75million.)

Updown Court boasts 103 rooms, five swimming pools, two penthouse apartments, a helipad and a $6 million marble heated driveway.

Extras include:

  • 24 bedrooms each with their own marble bathroom
  • a two lane bowling alley
  • five swimming pools
  • a squash court
  • tennis court
  • wine cellar
  • 50 seat home theater
  • a panic room. It stands in 58 acres of grounds with 50,000 square feet of space.

The mega mansion is set just 25 miles outside of London in the Surrey village of Windlesham.

The owner of Updown is bricklayer’s son-turned-property developer Leslie Allen-Vercoe, 67.

His company Rhymer Investments bought the mansion in 2002 out of receivership for a mere $33 million. In the last 10 years he has spent at least £50million on renovation work.

Now, an Irish bank has requested a drive to sell the mansion with a new price tag that reflects the vast sums invested into it.

However six years ago the house was put up for sale for $143.5 million but was then taken off the market. It is now re-listed with a $20 million price chop.

The estate’s neighbors include the Duchess of York, Elton John, and, at nearby Windsor Castle, the Queen.
