Red carpet beauty was all about the lips this year at the Academy Awards, and there was no better brand than NARS to help get the stunning starlets looking their best. For a few tips to get ready for your next appearance before the flashbulbs, check out what Florence Welch, Amy Adams and the beautiful Mandy Moore were painting on their pouts.
Pictured above, Mandy Moore — who was performing a song from Tangled — had a look that was retro and modern at the same time. “We wanted her makeup to have a strong pop,” said NARS artist Kayleen McAdams about Mandy’s red carpet lips. “I was so inspired by all the coral and orange lips on the runway for spring so I did a tangerine version on the lips and cheeks.”
To get the look yourself, pick up Red Square Velvet Matte Lip Pencil.
“We had to balance out her look because of the dress which we did by toning down the lip from a bright orange, to a flushed peach,” said Kayleen about the changed look for Moore on stage. In her blue gown, the peach lips were a perfect pair. For a peach pout on yourself, try Hopi Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil.
Best Supporting Actress nominee Amy Adams’s look was “old Hollywood disco,” says makeup artist Molly Stern.
For the lips, she used the new NARS Baroque Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil, which is new for Spring. On the eyes, Stern used Bateau Ivre Duo Eyeshadow and Sex Appeal Blush on the cheeks.
All of the items are from the latest NARS collection, and together, they made Adams radiant on the carpet in her sparkling L’Wren Scott sequin gown.
Florence Welch of Florence & The Machine wore a bold red lip on stage as she performed “If I Rise” from 127 Hours. To bring attention to her lips, NARS artist Tasha Brown used Heat Wave Lipstick, a classic shade in the NARS lineup. “Florence has such flawless skin so I added a bold color to complement her copper dress,” said Tasha about Florence’s performance look, which also included Gina Blush.
