Need a Neutra? The Troxell House is on the Market for $4.45 Million

Out-of-towners often laugh at L.A. architecture, citing paper thin faux-dobe houses as a reason not to dwell in the city of angels. But, it turns out that these naysayers couldn’t be farther from the truth. Los Angeles boasts the best of the best of mid-century modern homes from such superstars as Frank Lloyd Wright and R.M. Schindler. See? Haters be damned.

Peppered throughout Los Angeles are several abodes crafted by another archtecture icon: Richard Neutra. Ever use the type Neutraface? Yeah, that was based on Neutra’s design principles. Originally from Vienna, Neutra is famous for blending clean sleek lines with light open spaces. Rather than impose his aesthetic vision on those of his clients, Neutra was also known to give clients a questionnaire to get a feel for their domestic habits as well as their design tastes. So the result was always easy, breezy, beautiful SoCal perfection. His homes remain as contemporary and comfortable today as they did in the mid-twentieth century.

So, when I was digging around online and saw that the Neutra-designed Troxell House was on the market in the Pacific Palisades, I had to check it out. Here’s the deets: listed by Judy Feder, the four bedroom, two-and-half -bath modern marvel also sports an fitness center, a lap pool, exquisitely manicured landscape and a serious stretch of a lap pool. And, oh the views. Considering that the home sports walls of windows with breathtaking views of the Queens Necklace, this is not a home in which I’d throw stones. Of course, with an house designed and constructed by one the preeminent Los Angeles architects, you probably won’t need to. And with a $4.45 million sticker, you probably won’t want to.
