Haute Weekend Happenings: Al Fresco Flicks & Food on Sticks
Still recovering from Halloween and up for a more mellow weekend ahead? Well, I’ve got just the low-key picks for you. This and every Thursday at The Waikiki Edition Hotel watch a film under the stars at the Private Sunset Beach Pool. On Saturday, over at the Kahala Hotel & Resort enjoy the latest innovative culinary walk-a-about featuring food on sticks. And, finally, indulge in a low-stress way to navigate around First Friday. This weekend’s Haute Weekend Happenings are all about stress free fun.
Thursday, November 4: Movie Night at The Waikiki Edition Hotel
Every Thursday at 7 p.m. at The Waikiki Edition Hotel, join in-house guests and in-the-know locals to watch al fresco films at the Private Sunset Beach Pool. The outdoor movie theater under the stars is akin to a drive-in theater sans cars and equipped with comfy cabanas. Trade-in cokes and corn dogs for signature cocktails (Vegas-based Edition Bar Consultant, Tobin Ellis recommends The Chelsea), complimentary popcorn and sweet treats. Movie Night is a perfect choice for date-night or for meeting up with a mellow group of good friends. And, if you don’t want the night to end, well, head on over to the Lobby Bar for post-film bites followed by a dance party nightcap at CrazyBox, the hotel’s swank, modern nightclub.

Friday, November 5: The Chinatown Limobus
Who doesn’t love First Friday? The monthly art-walk complete with food vendors, live music and after-hours club parties is always a hit, but it’s no secret parking can be a major pain. Traffic jam no more, this month try Hawaii’s latest in haute transportation, the Limobus. A free VIP pass will take you between Downtown and Aloha Tower with pick-ups every half hour. It’s an easy, convenient and complimentary way to move about the infamous block party. Perfect for a group of friends, the Limobus accommodates up to 16.

Saturday, November 6: “Stick”
The Kahala is not afraid to go out on a limb, er, a stick, with a delicious morsel on the end of it. In fact they’ll be doing it all night for “Stick” their newest dining event featuring cuisine on a stick from each restaurant at the resort. Try the duck breast with black pepper caramel, Camembert cheese stick from Hoku’s, or the Pele’s spicy buffalo chicken stick from Plumeria Beach House. The sticks from Hoku’s will feature inspiration from Japan, Korea, and Europe. Plumeria Beach House takes a culinary cue from Hawaii, USA, and the Philippines while the banquet kitchen will feature South East Asian inspired “sticks”. Also available are the sushi bar, seafood bar, and carving station. And, for dessert? Lilikoi and Coconut Bon Bon Popsicles of course, along with other sweet delights on a stick. “Sticks” is from 6:30 to 10 p.m. and $75 per person.
