Work, Shop: The Gucci Artisan Corner Arrives

It’s not uncommon to be sporting initials on your handbag, even if they’re not your own. Why? Because we all know that a few letters can say a lot. For today only, the Gucci store at South Coast Plaza is hosting the Artisan Corner, a special in-store exhibit unlike any other.

Starting in 2009 and premiering in Naples, the Gucci Artisan Corner has toured cities throughout Europe, Asia and the U.S. before stopping in Orange County. Meant to literally bring the workrooms of Gucci to the consumers, letting you see all the handwork and detailed finishing that goes into a classic Gucci handbag, wallet or other small leather good.

Starting with the initial sketches on the drawing boards and evolving to the finished product, you’ll see every step of the process, from cutting to the final polish. Inside the custom-built workshop, you can see artisans create iconic handbags like the New Jackie, the Pelham and the G-Wave in addition to the house’s classic bamboo-handled satchels.

Meant to showcase and highlight the hand-stitching, assembly, weaving and preparation, the Artisan Corner lets you see, from start to finish, exactly what you’re getting.  In addition, customers can special order pieces and even get their very own initials hand embossed onto items right alongside the famed GGs.

The Gucci Artisan Corner is part of South Coast Plaza Style, a weeklong event celebrating fashion and beauty at the center.

Gucci is located at 3333 Bristol St., at South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa, 714.557.9600
