The Kremlin Cup 2010: Prestigious Tennis Tournament Commenced in Moscow
The international tennis tournament the Kremlin Cup has opened in Russian capital for the 21st time. It will be held through Oct. 24.
The start of sporting event was celebrated at the pre-Kremlin Cup party. It was held at the concept restaurant Rete (located just in front of Kremlin), where stars from the tennis, music and TV world joined to mark the kick off the sporting festival. Renowned tennis stars such as Marat Safin, Dinara Safina, Evgeny Kafelnikov were all in attendance. The highlight of the event was a photo exhibition dedicated to the history of Russian tennis players’ victories on the world courts.
About The Kremlin Cup
The Kremlin Cup is justly considered to be the highlight of Moscow sports autumn. It is the country’s only international professional tournament which has been drawing attention from the world of sports for more than two decades. The Kremlin Cup has won many awards from the АТР World Tour and Sony Eriсsson WTA Tour for the best organization. The tournament prize money amounts to $ 2,1 million. The Kremlin Cup ladies event falls under the prestigious “Premier 600” category and its prize money — just like last year — will total $1 million.
This year tournament promises to be intriguing and spectacular: ”Thanks to such upscale and representative tournaments like the Kremlin Cup, Russia’s modern-day tennis school remains one of the strongest in the world. I have no doubt that this upcoming tournament will become a true festival of sports,”said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in his address to the cup participants and fans.
Among this year participants are Jelena Jankovic, Anastasiya Pavlyuchenkova, Maria Kirilenko, Nikolay Davydenko, Mikhail Youzhny. The veteran Russian player Marat Safin is a senior organizer of the Kremlin Cup 2010.
