Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Edition by Georges Chakra Runway Show

On Friday afternoon, the term evening gown took on a definition entirely of its own during Edition by Georges Chakra’s Spring/Summer 2011 runway show. The Lebanese designer Georges Chakra launched his Edition line in February 2009 as a “line for modern, elegant and self-confident women,” and it was praised all over the globe for its originality and wearability.  This seasons’ ready-to-wear collection followed in the footsteps of previous seasons and was summed up in three words: “modern, elegant and glamorous.”

The show started out with a handful of black and ivory cocktail minis. Chakra kept the colors simple and instead put his creativity into the details. From asymmetrical necklines and crisscrossed straps to glowing sequins and intricate beading, Chakra left no detail ignored. Not surprising for the designer, who’s motto is “Everything is in the detail, luxury is in details.”

Long gowns that featured various shades of gold, nude, gray and taupe featured flowing chiffon skirts, shiny embellishments and draping fabrics made it nearly impossible to catch the exquisite details of each piece.

The show ended with Chakra himself and one of the models walking out onto the runway. She wore a classic long, gold gown, possibly one of the most coveted pieces of the entire collection.
