Haute Weekend Happenings
As we bid farewell to this season’s warm sun and rolling surf, Haute Living Honolulu has opted to sip Mai Tais at sunset, embrace fall fashion, and switch up our usual First Friday routine in favor of something decidedly new. In the spirit of the changing of the seasons, this holiday weekend is all about mixing it up.
Thursday, Sept. 2: Love me some Mai Tais
My ideal summer getaway always involves a luxurious hotel pool and Mai Tai at hand. So, as we say Aloha to the summer season, I suggest ordering up the Mai Tai nearest you. My go-to spot where you’re sure to find your favorite Mai Tai is the Royal Hawaiian Resort and Spa’s Mai Tai Bar. The seaside lounge delivers a menu filled with innovative Mai Tai creations by master mixologist Joey Gottesman. I, for one, enjoy the timeless perfection of a classic. But, if you want to add a little more funk to the traditional liquid treat, try the Scratch Mai Tai made with pineapple juice, the Rose Garden done with brut rose or the Mai Tai Degeneres concocted with Domaine de Canton ginger liquor.
Mai Tai Bar is located at the Royal Hawaiian Resort & Spa, www.royal-hawaiian.com, 808.923.7311.
Friday, Sept. 3: PRE at Nobu
Yes, strolling the monthly First Friday art walk and attending the after-parties never lets you down. But, how about wrapping summer with a slightly different vibe? PRE is Nobu Waikiki’s latest Friday night party. Celebrate Labor Day weekend in high style at Nobu’s Bar and Lounge. Listen to downtempo, trip hop and deep house grooves by DJ Raymit Ramit. Indulge in the $3 to $10 tapa menu until 10 p.m. And sip creative cocktails while taking in the vibes. PRE is bound to be cool scene.
PRE is located at Nobu Waikiki Bar & Lounge at The Waikiki Parc Hotel, 2233 Helumoa Rd., 808.237.6999.
Saturday, Sept. 4: Urban Revolution
Haute Hawaii-based designer Cindy King of Acid Dolls will reveal her highly anticipated 2010 fall/winter collection on the runways atop the fourth floor terrace at Royal Hawaiian Center. VIP guests will be greeted by a red carpet and cocktail reception followed by an 8 p.m. seating for the 8:30 p.m. fashion show featuring Urban Ballerina, Wild Hard West and Graffiti Zoo collections. In addition to haute style, fashion fiends will enjoy fabulous food, live music and dance performances. VIP tickets are $45 and standard passes are just $20.
