Family Ties: Uptown Girl Boutique
The phrase “all in the family” takes on a literal meaning when it comes to Atlanta boutique owners Ashley McCann and Michelle Jarusinski. Business partners and sisters-in-law, they are close-knit and fashionable to boot. Located in the upscale Sugarloaf Parkway suburb, take a look at their popular Duluth boutique Uptown Girl that has a little something for everyone.
After taking the reins from her mother in 2007, McCann and her sister-in-law Jarusinski transformed Uptown Girl into a chic and trendy fashion spot frequented by locals and out-of-towners alike. The boutique was initially started in 1999 by McCann’s mother in their local Duluth neighborhood to provide customers with fashionable options despite being a short drive outside the Atlanta perimeter.
Having both graduated from Auburn University with degrees in fashion and communications respectively, these ladies are not only in the business of fashion, they have studied it as well, which adds to the intimacy they have with each customer. Once you step inside Uptown Girl a personal touch is given, something that is sorely lacking at big retail chains. Stocking such popular designer names as Michael Stars, AG Jeans, Womyn and Sweet Pea, even the pickiest fashionistas are guaranteed to leave with something that flatters their taste and body type.
In between juggling the boutique and customers, McCann also travels with her husband, Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann during away games, while Jarusinski holds down the fort at home. It appears that being family and being in business is working quite nicely for these ladies, who are doing a fabulous job of keeping Atlanta fashionable with a nice dose of hometown sensibility.
