Luxury Living: Yves Saint Laurent’s Paris Apartment For Sale

News | May 10, 2010

In the market for a chic new abode? Well, we have our eyes on one that is equally parts luxury, couture, and glamour. Where might you ask is this swanky pad? Paris, mon amour.

There the famed apartment of late fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent is for sale. Last week his partner, Pierre Berge, listed the 11-room, 5,600-square-foot duplex for a cool €23.5 million (roughly $30 million in U.S. currency). Located in the heart of the Faubourg Saint-Germain district, Saint Laurent began living there in 1970; eight years later he purchased the apartment. He told Vogue Decoration in 1986, “The door opened, and right in front of me there was a window overlooking the garden. And that was that.”

The beautiful apartment features a Grand Salon, Music room, and Treasure room where the couple displayed their impressive art and furniture collection—last year the collection broke records at Christie’s Sale of the Century. The interiors are rich and decadent, a fitting reflection of Saint Laurent’s design aesthetic. Walls are lacquered red, ceilings are covered in gold leaf (inspired by YSL’s famous Opium fragrance), and the bedroom suite, designed by French decorator Jacques Grange, is outfitted in aquatic blues.
