Book Release: Todd Selby’s The Selby Is In Your Place

News | April 16, 2010

Todd Selby is having a great year. Not only did he recently shoot the Cole Haan campaign, but last night he celebrated the launch of his first book, The Selby Is In Your Place.

The shutterbug has photographed the interiors of everyone from Cecilia Dean, co-founder and editor of Visionaire, to Barneys New York’s creative director Simon Doonan and partner, Jonathan Adler. Yes, that Jonathan Adler. He has a knack for capturing his subjects in a uniquely comfortable and playful manner, and respectfully expresses a feeling of unrestrained humor in his photographs.

Selby, who says he has always wanted to do a book, finally found the right formula. Staying true to the aesthetic of his popular website The Selby, he has also managed to release something unexpected. For instance, the book comes with stickers. Doonan, who helped Selby ring in this milestone with a bash at Barneys last night says, “this book shows you how to bring your apartment in line with your style.” And what could be bigger than the launch of your first ever book? A limited edition Barneys shopping bag featuring Selby’s portraiture. According to Doonan, “we never let anyone touch our bag. Except Andy Warhol.” How’s that for making it big?
