Academy of American Poets Hosts 8th Annual Benefit
The Academy of American Poets hosted its 8th annual benefit titled, Poetry & The Creative Mind at the Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center. Several of America’s premier artists, scholars, and celebrities partook in the elegant evening as the event celebrated the role of contemporary poetry in American culture.
Every year this benefit raises funds for the initiatives of the Academy, including National Poetry Month, considered the largest literary festivity in the world. Those in attendance included Meryl Streep, Sting, Matt Dillon, Alan Cumming, Julian Schnabel, Jhumpa Lahiri, Gabriel Byrne, Ted Sorensen, Rosanne Cash, and Frank Bidart.
