“What’s In A Name?”

A lot if you’re related to Bernard Madoff.

Trying to shed herself of the of the reputation behind the infamous Madoff name, Stephanie Madoff, wife of Bernard “Bernie” Madoff’s son Mark, has filed papers with the New York Supreme Court in Manhattan asking that her and her children’s last names be changed to Morgan, reports The Huffington Post.

Citing death threats against her family due to her scheming father-in-law’s fraudulent reputation, petition papers filed on behalf of the children, a 3-year-old named Audrey and a 1-year-old named Nicholas, point to the fact that the kids have never been convicted of crime, says the New York Daily News. She said she “wishes to avoid additional embarrassment, harassment and endangerment associated with the name ‘Madoff,'” according to court documents.

On March 12, 2009, Bernie Madoff pleaded guilty to 11 federal counts, including money laundering, perjury, false filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, among other crimes and was sentenced to 150 years in prison, says CNN. Mark Madoff is totally cool with the name change.
