West Hollywood’s Oscar Hot Spots

News | March 10, 2010

The Kodak Theatre at Hollywood and Highland was certainly the place to be for a portion of Sunday evening, but the pre-events and after parties in West Hollywood earned quite a bit of attention as well.

Of course the Vanity Fair party is the most recognized event surrounding the Academy Awards. The head honcho of the magazine, Graydon Carter, hosted the annual fete at the Sunset Tower Hotel on the Sunset Strip and welcomed all of the Hollywood power players who were all dolled up in their designer duds.

West Hollywood isn’t only about frivolous glamor though; philanthropy plays a major role in many of the red carpet events. Elton John hosted the largest one of the evening at the Pacific Design Center. And when we give out that kind of superlative, we mean it. His AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing Party brought in $3.7 million. Grace Jones entertained the crowd which consisted of some of our favorite faces like Jennifer Hudson, will.i.am, Sharon and Kelly Osbourne, Jamie Foxx, Stacey Dash, Betty White, Simon Cowell, and Kara DioGuardi.

We told you earlier this week that Soho House West Hollywood was the haute venue of choice for The Weinstein Company, who teamed up with Montblanc for a charity cocktail event where Harvey Weinstein welcomed guests like Quentin Tarantino, Rob Lowe, Chris Tucker, Russell Simmons, Vera Wang, Emmy Rossum, Laurence Fishburne, and Rachel Zoe. The members-only club also hosted A-listers, including Madonna, Elton John, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman, Matt Dillon, Rosanna Arquette, and Edward Norton on Thursday, March 4.

One of the up-and-comers on the West Hollywood hotel scene is Palihouse Holloway. Vanity Fair took advantage of its rising popularity to host an art auction and gifting suite earlier in the week.

The winners of Hurt Locker celebrated and showed off their trophies in West Hollywood-style with a post-show soiree at Mondrian.

While Andaz West Hollywood was the party venue for best-documentary nominee The Cove. But they weren’t celebrating alone because the peeps from Precious were at the Andaz too, in the Panaroma Ballroom, basking in the honor of “just being nominated.”
