Helping Haiti: Round Two
Los Angeles’ restaurant community is really doing it’s part to help in Haiti. First there was Gourmandise Desserts and their cupcake baking class, with proceeds going to the Heartline Orphanage in Port-au-Prince. Now, as the realization of just how devastating this earthquake was to Haiti’s capitol city, other dining establishments across our fair city are sending funds to various organizations on the ground.
Last week, Ludovic Lefebvre cooked for the Hollywood Helping Haiti Golden Globes celebrity quite and TiGeorges hosted a benefit dinner in support of Haiti as well. Now joining the ranks, Eagle Rock Brewery is sending 20% of all Revolution Ale to earthquake victims while Sushi Roku, Boa Steakhouse, Katana, and Robata Bar (all under the same ownership) will donate 20% of all sales made tomorrow, January 19, to the American Red Cross, Yele Haiti, and the Clinton Foundation.
The Edison, downtown, will start suggesting a $10-per-person donation at the door from January 20 – 23, which will be donated to Doctors Without Borders and the restaurant/lounge will auction off celebrity memorabilia on Friday evening (January 22 from 5 – 7pm) for the same charity. Then, in Hollywood, 10% of sales at Kitchen 24 will be donated to Doctors Without Borders – that’s tonight from 5pm – 12am.
We may not be able to be on the ground doing work in Haiti ourselves, but at least while we eat out (and count our blessings) we can be helping those in need at the same time.
