We all know the sad day is slowly but surely approaching and soon Tavern on the Green will be shutting its sophisticated and iconic doors. But what could possibly be next for the legendary New York spot? Could a move to Brooklyn be in its future?
As Tavern on the Green and all of its adorning patrons prepare themselves for the inevitable restaurant and Russian Tea room closing, curious minds cannot help but wonder about what could possibly be next, and more precisely, where could be next? In a recent profile written about operator Jennifer LeRoy (pictured below), who took control over the iconic restaurant when she was just 21 years old, some speculation was done in regards to the restaurant’s future.
Tavern on the Green chief operating officer, Michael Desiderio commented, “Maybe we’ll open a Tavern on the Green hotel or a Tavern on the Green [restaurant] in Brooklyn.” It’s assumed that the decision about the restaurant’s trademarked name is still pending, as the LeRoy family recently hired a consulting firm to try and further profit from the name as a franchise model. No final decision regarding the trademark ownership has yet been made. Nor has any decision regarding Tavern on the Greens new potential home, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
