Christie’s Auctions This Gorgeous Photograph Today

News | December 8, 2009

Haute Living has addressed several of Christie’s big auctions this year, and today, a print of seminal photographer Horst P. Horst’s “Mainbocher Corset, 1939,” a modern fashion photography piece goes up for auction at Christie’s, as part of the house’s mid-season photography sale. The photograph measures 20 inches tall, 16 inches wide, and 1 inch in depth. Its estimated value is from $20,000 to $25,000.

Horst P. Horst (1906-1999), was a German-American photographer known for his photographs of women and fashion taken while working for Vogue magazine. His combination of extravagant visual fantasy and vibrant sensuality set his fashion photographs apart from others of his time. His work frequently reflects his interest in surrealism and his regard of the ancient Greek ideal of physical beauty.
