Agura: No Holy Water, Just Raw Fish

Who would have thought that Angelenos would be so fond of drinking, dining, and partying in a church?  There is downtown LA’s Vibiana, an enormous event space frequented by many an LA local and now claimed by Neal and Amy Fraser – the husband and wife team are moving their restaurant Grace to the space next year.  On the arts side, both the LA Philharmonic and Santa Monica’s Jacaranda perform concerts in local churches.  And now, in West Hollywood, we welcome Agura – the first church-like space that offers raw fish.

With oversized chandeliers, a serious cocktail menu, and a large golden Buddha at the back, it’s clear this is not your usual place of worship.  From their Seafood Platter all the way to their Foie Gras “To” Daikon, the menu is chock full of items you’ll want to try – not least of which is something called a Collagen Terrine.  There are more collagen jokes than we know what to do with, so we’ll just say this: it’s Pork Gelee with Balsamic and Lemon Sauce.

Even though this doesn’t quite seem like the kind of place where many diners will be feasting on dessert, they do offer a number of delectable choices – all in the name of praising the best things in life.  Like Bittersweet Chocolate Terrine.
