It was a very exciting week for billionaire developer of The Related Group Jorge Pérez and CEO and co-founder of sbe Sam Nazarian, as the power duo launched the highly-anticipated opening of their newest world-class property: SLS LUX Brickell. The project is the fourth of nine jointly developed properties that the two residential development and hospitality titans have embarked on together, but it is the first of its kind as SLS LUX marks the brand’s first ultra-luxurious SLS property in the country. And the crew spared no expense on celebrating the opening in style—aptly with a grand feast from the signature on-site restaurant, Katsuya.

Chef Katsuya Uechi was present for the lavish fête, where boatloads of the highest quality of fish was served to 300 VIP guests, giving them a first taste of the delectable cuisine coming to the downtown hot spot on the pool-roof of the Hotel & Residences. Of course, attendees were treated to exciting live entertainment by Cuban singer and pianist Aymee Nuviola and DJ Irie, as well as inventive libations from S Bar and signature Katsuya dishes all night long, such as the Dynamite Crab Roll, Crispy Rice, Miso Black Cod, Katsuya Roll and so much more.

The celebratory evening brought in Mayor Carlos Giménez, South Miami community leaders and tastemakers to commemorate the brand’s second tower in Brickell. The mixed Hotel & Residences is an extraordinary Arquitectonica-designed, 57-story tower that will feature the first LED façade by prominent lighting artist Ana Isabel Martinez. The project encompasses 450 sold-out luxury residences featuring private elevators and 84 guest rooms and suites, all expertly designed by the incomparable Yabu Pushelberg. Additionally, the new, swanky property rests just steps away from one of Miami’s latest and greatest retail centers—the sprawling, posh Brickell City Centre.

After the excitement of Thursday evening, the developer and philanthropist returned to the luxurious property to dine at the Yabu Pushelberg-designed restaurant Katusya with his wife, Darlene Pérez, along with 20 close friends for an intimate private dinner and Champagne tasting. Among the guests were award-winning musician and producer Marc Anthony, Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Alejandro Sanz and tennis player Martina Mavratilova.

The VIP attendees were treated to a gourmet feast prepared by chef Katsuya Uechi himself, who was seen showcasing the restaurant’s menu and preparing sushi at the table for the group, which paired perfectly with an impressive tasting of Armand de Brignac Champagne. They enjoyed bottles of Brut, Rose and Blanc De Blanc. Also spotted at the restaurant that night was former Super Bowl Champion and current ESPN analyst Jon Vilma.
