Luxury Icon Goes Electric With Land Rover’s Range Rover P400e

Keeping the Range Rover in tune with its appraised class leading image, svelte face-lifting is on the horizon for 2018MY. But rather than focus on seat comfort, hot stone massage, and the hand gesture sun roof activation, we are much more intrigued by the PHEV model available in the coming year. Just announced, it will feature a two liter four-cylinder gasoline engine coupled to an electric motor housed inside the eight-speed ZF transmission. A total output equals 404 bhp and features 31 miles of electric driving sans emissions.

Additional effort has been put into revising the off road mechanics of the gasoline-electric drives. Needless to say, wading capacity remains at 35,4 inches. A statement that not many owners are willing to exercise, but should a need arise, they know it is one of the most capable machines on the planet.

Besides a sole electric mode, the P400e is also able to combine both power sources in a hybrid mode. This enables it to reach a maximum speed of 137mph and a 0-60 sprint in 6.4 seconds. Charging the prismatic cell lithium-ion battery, which is mounted below rear trunk floor, is executed through a discreet panel on the front grill. To monitor the charging process, an application on your phone will inform you of the battery status. The electric Range Rover is part of a broad Jaguar and Land Rover plan, to offer all their vehicles by an electrified powertrain starting from 2020.
