Where do you go and what do you do if you have 24 hours in The ‘Bu, which is how locals refer to Los Angeles’ favorite affluent summertime city? Here is a list of seven spots every visitor must know before you go.

THE BEST BARS & LOUNGES

Little Beach House
Little Beach House

It is so exclusive, in fact, that not even already-established members are guaranteed entry—they have to be approved by a local board first. Still, if you’re one of the lucky few to gain access to the10,000 square foot club of hidden nooks and crannies with a beachy vibe and loads of contemporary art, ocean views, a meat and seafood-heavy all-day dining menu and a sitting room, you’re living the endless summer for sure.

CAFE HABANA. Rande Gerber‘s excellent Cuban/Mexican cafe, located at the Malibu Lumber Yard, is a ton of fun. Just ask his numerous celebrity pals (George Clooney, wife Cindy Crawford, Laird Hamilton and Bono are a few); many of whom gather, come Wednesdays, for karaoke night. Yes, really.

ESSENTIAL EATS

Nobu Malibu
Nobu Malibu

NOBU MALIBU. The crown jewel of Robert De Niro, Meier Teper and Nobu Matsuhisa‘s high-end Japanese eateries has picture perfect views of the Pacific, is constantly packed with the world’s most beautiful people and has exquisite fare. What more can you ask for?

MASTRO’S OCEAN CLUB. Malibu is often considered to be low-key and laid-back despite its obvious wealth, but the emergence of Mastro’s a few years back offered the locals (and visitors) the chance to dress up a bit for a night of revelry. Here you’ll find sophisticated ambiance, gorgeous glassware, white linen tablecloths, an attentive waitstaff and seafood towers loaded with lobster and caviar along with Mastro’s signature meat dishes. Just gorgeous.

MR. CHOW. Artist and designer Michael Chow chose carefully when he opted to open the second California outpost of his haute global Chinese eatery at the Malibu Country Mart in 2012. The white on white decor adds an elegant touch to the carefully curated art, and provides a beautiful backdrop for some of the best Beijing duck you’ll find anywhere in the word.

HAUTE HOTEL

THE MALIBU BEACH INN. The Malibu Beach Inn, formerly owned by David Geffen, is one of our very favorite hotels in Los Angeles. This boutique property is located right on Billionaire’s Beach, and you just need to step onto your airy balcony to see dolphins, or soak in the sultry sea air. We love the luxe beachy vibe of the rooms, which feature fireplaces, a Dean and Deluca appointed mini bar, private balconies, Bellino linens, Bamford products and, yes, even binoculars for star-gazing. Plus, what other hotel do you know of that always has fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies on hand for guests, hm?

SELECTIVE SHOPPING

Malibu Country Mart

THE MALIBU LUMBER YARD AND MALIBU COUNTRY MART. The Malibu Lumber Yard and Malibu Country Mart are located side by side in the same general vicinity, which is why we’ve decided to group them together. Two plazas are better than one, right? At the former, you’ll find Alexis Bittar, James Perse, Maxfield and Vilbrequin, while at the latter you’ll indulge in retail therapy at John Varvatos, Ralph Lauren Womens and Ron Herman.
