Truffles are one of the most expensive ingredients that can take a simply prepared dish to an extraordinary new level. Their rich, earthy flavors have been a favorite of chefs for years when creating standout meals. Here’s a look at five of the most elaborate truffle dishes in Boston that you will want to get your next indulgent fix on.

1 Truffle Mac & Cheese

Ocean Prime
Light, creamy and oh so good, the truffle mac and cheese at Ocean Prime in the Seaport District is one of those dishes that once you know about it, you will keep coming back for more. This haute dish, which errs on the side of simplicity to let the beloved fungi's flavors shine through, combines some of the richest ingredients to make this one of the city's most decadent dishes - think cheddar, parmesan and Swiss cheeses and white truffle oil topped off with slices of black truffle.

2 Black Truffle Ravioli

Serafina knows how to do Italian right and their trademark ravioli al tartufo nero is just one stellar example that makes this Financial District haute spot even better. Made with homemade black truffle ravioli with just a touch of butter, there isn't much more this simplistic dish needs. We also love the homemade tagliolini, which offers a double truffle threat: tossed in a rich truffle cream sauce topped with black truffles.

3 Truffled Croque Madame with Truffle Fries

MET Back Bay
The brunch scene in Boston got a whole lot tastier when MET Back Bay introduced their Truffled Croque Madame with artisanal ham, gooey gruyere cheese, fried egg accompanied by a side of golden truffle fries with sage. Diners come here to whet their hearty weekend appetite with forkfuls of this earthy dish that goes down even better when alternated with a bite of truffle fries.

4 Massachusetts Pan-Roasted Striped Bass with Truffles

Brian Samuels
The newest addition to Back Bay that opened earlier his week, Mooncusser Fish House's opening menu includes Massachusetts pan-roasted striped bass topped off with a delicate sampling of truffles. The restaurant is named in honor of owner Ian Calhoun’s childhood summers spent on Cape Cod’s Mooncusser Lane in East Dennis. The seasonal menu here will focus on featuring local species of fish along with sustainable alternatives (not to mention a five-course tasting menu of native fishes).

5 Alaska King Crab Black Truffle Gnocchi

Mastro's Restaurant
Just when you thought truffle dishes couldn't get any better, Mastro's not only comes to Boston’s Seaport District, but brings with it their decadently rich Alaska king crab black truffle gnocchi. Sweet crabmeat is combined with aged cheddar cheese blended with pillowy potato gnocchi combined with earthy black truffles. Pair this rich side up with a bone-in Kansas City strip or double cut pork chop and you have a meal you won’t soon forget.
