Nothing feels more like the arrival of summer than Memorial Weekend. It is also the first of many summer barbecues and backyard bashes. With the holiday swiftly approaching, we spoke with Michael Cerbelli, event planner to stars like Billy Joel and Robert De Niro, who shared his tips for planning the perfect Memorial Day soirée. However, it’s important to not forget what Memorial Day is all about: honoring our country, our home and the red white and blue.
When it comes to your decorations I recommend keeping it simple with a wooden table, silver circular trays and then different jars to create various stations. Jars can be filled with everything from red and white blue jellybeans, M&M's or any of your favorite snacks. For your silverware and cutlery station use mason jars with red or blue napkins or for a more creative look opt for bandanas.
For your Memorial Day menu keep it light with watermelon stars and blueberries in a big WHITE bowl for guests to graze throughout the day. Having an array of appetizers is the best way to give your guests multiple options. Red and blue (AND OF COURSE WHITE) deviled eggs are always a huge hit and super simple. Just add some colored dye and you are all set!
When it comes to drinks it's best to create two signature drinks that way you don't waste time making individual drinks. Opt for red and white sangria (GREAT DRINK FOR NON-ALCHOL AS WELL) and than to add fresh red and blue fruit such as blue berries, apples, white grapes and strawberries to create a gorgeous punch bowl display.
