Inside Saks Fifth Avenue’s Haute New Manolo Blahnik Shop
You would think that Saks Fifth Avenue‘s dedicated shoe floor would have fancy footwear from every big name in the shoe biz— but one name has been left out until now. The legendary, Manolo Blahnik has rightfully taken his place at Saks with a 750 square foot boutique located on the famed 10022-SHOE floor (also known as the 8th floor).
Saks will celebrate the launch with windows dedicated to the covetable footwear and Blahnik’s new book, Fleeting Gestures and Obsessions as well as company wide events and a rare in store appearance by Mr.Shoe himself.
The shop in shop is comprised of two rooms—Mr. Blanhik collaborated with the Saks team on the design of the shop. The first room is decorated like a woman’s boudoir with an antique Murano glass chandelier as its centerpiece. There is a sitting room featuring a Venetian glass mirrored wall and the overall vibe is a modern take on a sophisticated residential New York apartment.
Sak’s fall “magalog” will feature an exclusive conversation between Blahnik and Valerie Steele who is chief curator of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. The piece is called, “Extremities of Manolo Blahnik” and reveals a glimpse into the designer’s personality and achievements. He will talk about his upcoming 2015 Couture Council Award for Artistry in Fashion in the book.
Fleeting Gestures and Obsessions, is a compendium of his work and provides access to never before seen work and photographs of his past designs. He reveals who some of his inspirations have been, Marie Antoinette, Diana Vreeland, Cecil Beaton, and the artists Goya and Velazquez. It’s a personal journey and will be available at Saks Fifth Avenue in early September.
Saks invites readers around the world to follow the New York Blahnik launch with the hashtags #saks #10022shoe.
Manolo Blahnik’s gorgeous but pricy shoes reached popular status when Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City talked about her Manolo addiction on several episodes.
